Position Summary
The Academic Personnel Support Specialist in Faculty Advancement and Student Success administers critical faculty hiring and advancement processes, including recruitment, leaves (including sabbaticals and difference in pay), retirements (including FERP), resignations, and FERP in compliance with federal equal opportunity and immigration hiring regulations, CFA contract, and university policy. This is in coordination with the Provost's Office, the Center for Human Resources, and the Center for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination.
The position will provide administrative support for the AVP FASS and faculty development programs including New Faculty Orientation and programming by the Center for Teaching and Learning. The Academic Personnel Support Specialist receives, interprets, and responds to sensitive / privileged information pertaining to academic personnel in consultation with the Academic Personnel Process Lead, the Associate Vice President for Faculty Advancement and Student Success, and other campus officers as appropriate.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
Faculty Advancement and Student Success (FASS) fosters inclusive academic excellence through support for faculty careers, professional development, community engagement, and student academic support and enrichment. This includes Interdisciplinary Studies in three departments: major, Undergraduate Studies, and the Weber Honors College.

Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.
Key Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with faculty on confidential, sensitive, and complex employment-related matters.
  • Understanding or ability to learn faculty-related processes including appointment, periodic evaluation, performance review, leaves, and grievances.
  • Ability to work independently on complex problems and work assignments.
  • Capable of leading teams and implementation efforts for assigned projects.
  • Experience working with collective bargaining agreements and cooperative working relationships with union representatives is preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,965 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,694 - $7,131 per month.
