Position Summary
Responsible for program management of a collaborative learning program that supplements large lecture courses and aids students in transitioning to college-level learning. Support, mentor, and teach students to develop course-relevant problem-solving skills.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach or co-teach the SAM (Seminar in Academic Mentoring) and PAM (Practical Applications of Academic Mentoring) courses for peer leaders to introduce them to the pedagogy and philosophy of peer-to-peer learning and further deepen their understanding of Physics.
- Manage administrative aspects of the Introductory Physics academic support programs.
- Work with the Physics faculty to produce problem sets that are suitable for groupwork for students to use in PLTL and recitation sessions.
- Assess the academic support programs for their overall effectiveness at helping students learn and modify the programs if needed.
- Train, mentor, and provide both formal and informal feedback from observations of the peer leaders when they meet with their groups.
- Additional activities related to Introductory Physics, as needed.
- Teach a recitation section, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in STEM education.
- PhD in relevant field.
- Highly self-directed and independent worker.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving and project management skills.
- Ability to choose the best organizational process or workflow for a given context and application.
- Demonstrated ability to manage details while maintaining a landscape view of priorities, values and vision.
- Enthusiasm and ability to work in a dynamic environment with multiple functions, audiences and priorities.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and pedagogy in the relevant field.
- Willingness to learn innovative teaching techniques and philosophies.
- Ability and willingness to work occasional evening and weekend hours both on-campus and off-campus in service to community partners and to the institute’s mission.
- Good supervisory and interpersonal skills.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.).
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics or related field and one year of related experience.

Salary Range
$50,500.00 - $86,200.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
