Position Summary:
With almost 60 full-time faculty members, 200+ PhD students and 250+ Masters students in two programs (professional MCS & research-oriented MS), and more than 2,300+ undergraduates, we provide a world-class research environment spanning not only the core areas of computer science - including computer architecture, system software, networking and distributed computing, data and information systems, the theory of computation, artificial intelligence, and computer graphics - but also highly interdisciplinary programs, such as biomedical informatics, data mining, security and privacy, and ubiquitous computing. The diverse research interests of our faculty are reflected directly in our educational programs. Computer Science faculty teach most of the undergraduate and graduate courses for the degree programs in both Computer Science and Information and Computer Science. We jointly offer with our colleagues in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering an undergraduate degree in Computer Science and Engineering, as well as the graduate program in Networked Systems. We also have a major in Computer Game Science, jointly offered with the Department of Informatics. Our department collaborates with many other institutions in the United States and abroad, and its doors are always open to a multitude of visitors and collaborators from all corners of the globe.
The Academic Personnel Analyst is a seasoned experienced professional with a comprehensive understanding of UC, campus, and unit academic practices, policies, and procedures. Reviews and analyzes a wide variety of academic personnel files and manages the academic personnel review cycle for department's senate employees. Manages academic recruitment activities, joint faculty appointments, the processing of leaves of absence / sabbatical requests, summer salary, and annual outside professional activities. Advises faculty, department chair, and administrators on academic personnel matters. Researches and resolves moderate to complex academic HR-related issues affecting a broad range of academic titles in imaginative and practical ways.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $73,900.00 - $88,850.00 (Annual Salary). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $73,900.00 - $133,700.00 (Annual Salary).

Required:

  • 3-5 years relevant work experience with a B.A./B.S. degree or equivalent experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of and ability to apply / interpret organization and college policies and procedures which govern academic HR.
  • Thorough knowledge of systemwide and organization policies, union contracts, procedures and practices that govern academic HR administration.
  • Knowledge of trends in academia, especially in areas of academic planning, human resource management and administration.
  • Ability to analyze complex management issues, develop project scope and solutions, give professional advice to senior officials, and make critical decisions regarding personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. Excellent critical and innovative thinking to address moderately complex issues and present nuanced analyses.
  • Skill to maintain confidentiality and to effectively communicate and perform responsibilities with tact, sensitivity, diplomacy, and discretion.
  • Ability to independently prioritize and organize multiple complex projects as well as routinely work in an environment of heavy workload, deadline pressures, and frequent interruptions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to write concise, logical, grammatically correct analytical reports, procedural documents or memos. Ability to proofread before it is released.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and to develop and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, campus administrators, students, and professionals throughout and outside of the University.
  • Extensive working knowledge of personal computers and proficiency utilizing standard software programs and information technology. Skill in managing and organizing filing systems.

Preferred:
  • Thorough knowledge of organization and college goals, priorities and values and the legal and human implications of decisions.
  • Political acumen sufficient to understand the university hierarchy and to deal appropriately with persons at all levels of the hierarchy. Experience working in an academic department.
