Florida Atlantic University is committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all who interact in our community. In building this environment, we strive to attract students, faculty and staff from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences. Florida Atlantic University embodies a culture of strategic and collaborative community engagement that results in mutual benefit to the institution and the various internal and external communities that it serves. We are seeking faculty who can contribute to the excellence in our programs and courses through their research, teaching, and service.

The Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University is seeking a dynamic and collaborative academic geriatrician to join the faculty at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Geriatric Medicine. This position is intended for faculty with experience in teaching, leadership, innovation, and clinical service as an Academic Geriatrician.

This role is a combined educational and clinical faculty position.  The clinical component will include seeing patients in the post-acute and long-term care setting at a skilled nursing facility as well as seeing outpatient geriatric consultations in the FAU Medicine practice.  Additionally, there will be an instructional role which is flexible and could include a combination of direct teaching of residents and medical students in the hospital, at the skilled nursing facility, in the clinic, at the simulation center, or in didactic or small group sessions.  There are opportunities for scholarly work and quality improvement as well.  Furthermore, there will be opportunities for growth in academic rank with access to mentorship from senior faculty members in the College of Medicine.

The mission of the Schmidt College of Medicine as a community-based medical school is to advance the health and well-being of our community by training future generations of humanistic clinicians and scientists and translating discovery to patient-centered care. We are committed to providing educational programs, in partnership with our hospital affiliates, that enable our medical students and residents to become active, self-directed, life-long learners; equip our graduates to effectively treat the patients that they are most likely to encounter in their practices; produce graduates with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and self-awareness required to practice effective, humanistic, patient-centered, evidence-based medicine; emphasize the centrality of collaborative relationships in the provision of the highest quality comprehensive health care; and foster and value collaboration among medical specialties, and between academic medicine and community health care professionals.

Our mission is to produce graduates who are prepared and motivated to play a central role in the achievement of three critical state goals: (1) providing the highest quality health care to Florida's citizens; (2) assuring that the state has the requisite number of medical faculty required to support Florida's medical schools and assure continued access to medical education opportunities in Florida; and (3) producing physician-scientists with the knowledge and skills required to become board-certified in internal medicine and embrace lifelong learning.
