Position Description

Bloomsburg University’s Department of Academic Enrichment seeks applicants for temporary faculty positions (full-time one semester or part-time one semester) in the following areas:
1) reading,
2) writing,
3) mindfulness practice,
4) student success courses, and
5) advisement.


Qualifying Experience / Education

A successful applicant must possess the following minimum requirements in a subject area to be considered qualified for it:
Reading: Master's degree in reading, reading education, literacy, or related area and at least three years’ experience teaching reading. (Applicant must have a concentration in reading or literacy.)
Writing: Master’s degree in English, English education, or related area and at least three years’ experience teaching writing or equivalent course.
Mindfulness and Mindset Theory: Master’s degree in any discipline will be considered. Master’s degree in educational psychology or human development preferred. Experience in mindfulness practice required. Three years’ teaching experience in a relevant area required.
Student Success Courses: Master’s degree in reading, English, education, psychology, or related area. Experience working with students transitioning to college and/or facing academic jeopardy required. Three years’ teaching experience in a relevant area required.
Advisement: Master’s degree in any discipline will be considered. Three years’ experience in student program planning and student advising required.
All applicants must demonstrate evidence of the ability to work with and relate to individuals of varying backgrounds, cultures, and abilities. In your cover letter, clearly indicate the subject area for which you are applying (reading, writing, etc.) and address any relevant experience in the following preferred qualification areas:
o Working with college students;
o Knowledge of potential challenges experienced by at-promise, underprepared, underrepresented, and undeclared students;
o Working with diverse populations;
o Scholarship: publications, presentations and other professional development;
o Fluency in informational and technological literacy.

Recommendation for hiring is needed from a majority of regular full-time department faculty. Finalists for these positions must communicate well and successfully complete an interview process and/or teaching demonstration, as judged by the department faculty. Prior to a final offer of employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and other credential verification, Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, and criminal background.
Selected candidates should expect mandatory department trainings and/or workshop participation during the course of employment.
Completing these searches is contingent upon available funding.
