Job Summary

The Academic Department Specialist acts as assistant to the Director of the Center for Jewish Studies. In addition, the Academic Department Specialist conducts the Center’s daily operation; manages the Center’s budget, organizes conferences, seminars, guest lectures and academic/artistic performances; works closely with community organizations, associations (both religious and non-religious), leaders, and individuals; writes grant proposals and participates in fund raising efforts; and coordinates the comprehensive volume of activities of the Center. The Academic Department Specialist must be willing to work in an environment that is diverse, and have interpersonal and professional skills to thrive in an office where the priorities may at times be mediated by the constituencies that the Center for Jewish Studies serves.

Minimum Qualifications

Excellent professional verbal and written communication skills including phone etiquette.
Ability to maintain confidential records and information relative to office administration.
Advanced clerical skills in filing, proofreading, and reproduction of documents and data entry.
Advanced knowledge of Windows computer operating system, Office software programs, knowledge of email and internet as well as word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in WISDM, WISPR, PeopleSoft, Online Access Student Information System (OASIS) and Microsoft software programs including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat.
Knowledge of UW and/or State purchasing procedures.
Exceptional organizations skills, independent judgement and initiative.
Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping, with emphasis on budgetary matters.
Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, and complete tasks under deadlines.
