Job Summary

The Department of Anthropology and Sociology is seeking a Department Secretary. Work includes all clerical aspects including, but not limited to, the screening of visitors, answering correspondence, maintaining office and activities, calendars, and the typing, completing, processing, and filing of documents, forms, letters, and related office materials including the handling of sensitive material, as well as effective and tactful interpersonal communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

This position deals directly with students, faculty, staff, and the public; therefore, you must have:

  • Proficiency in common software, such as: PeopleSoft, SharePoint, SAP, Task Stream, Zoom, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams, as well as the ability to learn new technologies
  • Must have experience working in diverse work environment
  • Must have exemplary communication skills
  • Must be highly organized, reliable, efficient, and able to exercise initiative
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to prioritize multiple projects
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records
  • Applicant must be able to type 40 WPM
  • Cultural competency as it relates to working with communities of color; LGBTQ+; and other marginalized communities.
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications


  • Familiarity with social media for organizations
  • Ability to organize and coordinate department events
  • Experience running and monitoring department social media accounts
