The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) maintains an internationally recognized research program with six research areas, numerous academic programs, and multiple research and testing laboratories spread across five different buildings. Civil and Environmental Engineering continues to be recognized as one of the world's premier programs in our field, with both undergraduate and graduate programs of the department ranking in the top 25 in polls such as US News & World Report, National Research Council, and Gorman Report. The department serves over 700 students annually, and grants bachelors, masters, and PhD degrees. As of January 2022, the department has 46 faculty, 16 postdoctoral scholars, and 48 staff.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) has an outstanding opportunity for a Temporary Academic Counselor. This position is a temporary, 6 month project appointment, at 50-100% FTE, depending on successful candidate’s needs.

Position Purpose:
This position reports to the CEE Director of Academic Services and, as part of the student and academic services team, will provide temporary academic and advising services to a growing and complex department. Primary focus will be to assist current and prospective students and provide professional staff support for departmental activities and events that serve students, with a special focus on working with the Professional Master's Program (PMP). This position is a temporary 6 month project appointment, appointed at 50-100% FTE.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Professional Master’s Program (PMP) Duties and Responsibilities - 50%
• Process PMP admissions applications to the graduate Professional Master’s Program (PMP), checking to insure all documents have been received and meet minimum requirements. Send admission/denial notifications to applicants at direction of Area Graduate Advisors. Maintain admission statistics.
• Conduct degree audits and recommend graduation to Graduate School through MyGradProgram.
• Maintain graduate student academic files, generate reports as requested, and maintain student records (current and alumni).

General CEE Academic Services Duties and Responsibilities - 30%
• Advise and counsel prospective students regarding civil & environmental engineering, such as admission requirements, processes, and University, Graduate School, and/or Departmental policies and procedures.
• Provide information and guidance to prospective students regarding the Department’s educational options and sub-disciplines to assist individuals to explore or examine academic and career choices. Make referrals to faculty or others, as necessary.
• Advise new and continuing students on course offerings, selection, and/or registration issues.
• Coordinate with various staff members, faculty, and PCE to ensure accurate and appropriate course offerings and time scheduling.
• In coordination with undergraduate and graduate advisor, and with the guidance of faculty program coordinator(s), organize and attend information sessions for prospective students and orientation sessions.

Other Duties - 20%
In working with the graduate and undergraduate advisors and others as appropriate:
• Coordinate quarterly time schedule and assist time schedule coordinator to implement schedule.
• Coordinate logistics for departmental events for students, such as Graduation, CEE Career Fair, Visitation Days, and Orientation.
• Update and maintain Web and print information related to student and academic services. (Use Contribute software to update Web information.)
• Provide support to the undergraduate and graduate programs as needed (for example, represent the department at fairs, recruitment events, and meetings, etc.).

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in education, engineering, or related field and two to three years experience working with student, project management, or equivalent.

Desired Qualifications:
• A good communicator, good organizational skills, event planning experience.
• Computer skills: MS Office Suite, UW systems (including student database, My GradProgram, Time Scheduling, Catalyst, etc.), Contribute, Photoshop, and Web-based social media, such as Facebook and LinkedIn.
