Position Summary:
Informs and assists students and prospective students with admission process. This includes pre-professional semester schedule planning, scheduling of shadowing experiences, and answering questions about the program during advising or recruiting events
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides academic advising to students:
- Scholarship requirements and advise accordingly
- International Program requirements and advise accordingly
- Monitor progress towards graduation dates
- Schedules student advising meetings in a timely fashion
- Facilitates changes of major, advising hold lifts, and advisor identification through internet Native Banner for all majors
- Maintains accurate student records
- Accurately advises students according to degree requirements
- Assist students in the creation of 4 year academic plans for applicable major
- Ensure students are aware of:
- Meets regularly with Chairs of the Departments as well as SMART Center office staff and supervisor to provide up-to-date program information
- Will be a liaison with all student clubs and organizations
- Communicate with the University Advising Center
- Maintains good rapport with all student advisors
- Recruits and promotes programs by participating in:
- Area career and academic fairs
- Ambassador Program
- CoSM Clubs
- STEM Den – Living Learning Community (LLC)
- Honors College Days
- Assist with New Student Registration Days and Preview Days for the programs they represent
- Assist in retention efforts
- Corresponds with all student services areas across campus and works fluidly with each department as needed in regards to the needs of student advisors
- Participates in the assessment process when necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Working knowledge of requirements of various programs within science and mathematics
Must possess good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to counsel students is important
General Days/Hours:
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Additional hours as requested and/or needed
Regular and reliable attendance
Occasional travel and weekend events will be required

Work with chairs of the College, as well as other individuals in the office of the Dean of Sciences and Mathematics for training in areas of advising, counseling and/or curriculum development. Ability to work with target student populations in areas of academics, career planning, and limited counseling. Must be comfortable speaking in small and large group settings
Preferred Qualifications:
An earned Masters Degree
Two (2) years of experience working with students in an educational setting, preferably in an advising capacity. Enthusiasm for helping students attain their educational goals
Minimum Qualifications:
An earned Bachelor’s Degree in an academic discipline within the College of Sciences and Mathematics, Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business or a related field
