The Academic Support Program for Student Athletes at North Carolina State University supports the recruitment, retention and graduation of NC State student athletes by providing a comprehensive support system that affords student-athletes equitable opportunity to pursue academic, personal, and professional development while strongly adhering to the principles of integrity, excellence, and lifelong learning.
Essential Job Duties
Responsibilities for the Academic Coordinator include but are not limited to developing and implementing programs and activities for assisting and monitoring academic progress toward degree for assigned sports, providing academic support, collaborating with other staff members to support students, serving on or leading unit committees, and serving as a liaison with other campus support organizations.
The Academic Coordinator will be responsible for monitoring academic progress and eligibility of assigned team(s); meeting weekly with freshmen/at-risk student athletes on assigned team(s); attending campus professional development opportunities; assisting in the recruiting process of student athletes; and communicating academic information and concerns to coaches/athletic administrators
Additional duties include:
  • Monitoring academic progress and eligibility of assigned team(s)
  • Meeting weekly with freshmen/at-risk student athletes on assigned teams
  • Overseeing structured academic environment for assigned teams
  • Acting as primary academic advisor of Exploratory Studies student athletes on assigned teams
  • Assisting in recruiting process of student athletes
  • Communication of academic updates to coaches/athletic administrators
Other Responsibilities
  • Interpreting and implementing NCAA, NC State and ASPSA policies and procedures, teaching seminar courses for first-year student-athletes.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master’s degree in education, counseling, student affairs or related field
  • Minimum of one year of full-time experience in the field of academic support for student-athletes
Other Required Qualifications
  • Experience working with a variety of students and a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of experience advising student-athletes at the university level with a demonstrated ability to interact with students on a variety of issues
