Academic and Student Success Advisor
SPHTM Student Experience
Location:  New Orleans, LA
Summary
The Academic and Student Success Advisor supports and guides SPHTM online and residential graduate students from admission confirmation through matriculation with the goal of supporting students’ academic goals and increasing institutional persistence and retention rates. The Academic and Student Success Advisor achieves defined objectives by implementing and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines; proactively fostering effective relationships and individualized mentorships to help students achieve their potential; and serving as a member of the Academic and Student Success team. The Academic and Student Success Advisor maintains regular contact with students, using multiple communication platforms, such as phone, email, instant messaging, and Zoom meetings.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Working knowledge of federal regulations such as Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to student accommodation.
• Proficient computer skills in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, electronic mail, and internet applications, preferably of Microsoft Office Suite software.
• Knowledge of student risk factors, and ability to assess and provide high level reports during team meetings.
• Problem solving and analysis skills, and ability to create action plans that fall within the scope of the role and established guidelines.
• Ability to use resources as required to perform the daily expectations of serving students.
• Interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships quickly through phone, email and texting tools.
• Ability to adapt quickly to changing work priorities, set priorities, meet deadlines, be flexible, and work well under pressure.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively to a diverse audience with emphasis on active listening and constructive support.
• Organizational skills and ability to work well with detailed information/data with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to be self-motivated, enthusiastic, personable, assertive, dependable, and work independently and as a member of a team.
Required Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree 
• 1 year of directly related experience, preferably in a higher education institution providing student support services
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in Public Health, Higher Education Administration, or other social science.
• Knowledge of graduate students and graduate student experience.
• Professional experience with problem solving and conflict resolution.
Compensation Information
This position is classified as "exempt, salaried" and is assigned to pay grade 24.
