Academic Advisor, Upward Bound

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Academic Advisor of Upward Bound at Cameron University is critical to the success of the Upward Bound program and its students.

Job Duties as Academic Advisor include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop both summer and academic year curriculum.
  • Assure all assigned Upward Bound students are served weekly.
  • Plan, supervise, and teach bi-weekly Saturday Sessions.
  • Share in the chaperoning of social and cultural enrichment activities during the academic year.
  • Assist in transporting, and supervising students on college visits.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and paper records concerning program activities, course materials, student forms and contacts.
  • Recruit, select, hire and train teachers during the summer and tutor/mentors during the academic year.
  • Supervise the activities of the teachers and tutors and evaluate them at least once per year.
  • Compile grade reports and analysis each grading period.
  • Monitor all student grades and intervene as needed to improve student performance.
  • Monitor and manage tutoring program during the academic year.  Prepare tutoring schedules and letters to parents and students each grading period.
  • Accompany and supervise students at campus visits, social and cultural activities during the academic year and summer components.
  • Live in-residence hall with students as assigned during the week.
  • Other duties as requested by the Program Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or extensive experience working with youth
  • Background similar to that of Upward Bounds’ students
  • Evidenced progression towards a master’s degree
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and management ability

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience working with disadvantaged youth

SALARY RANGE: $35,000.00
