The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is accepting applications for a new Academic Advisor. This is a 12-month, full-time staff position reporting to the Associate Dean of Academic Success & Advising.

Hiring Range: $37,000 - $40,000/year

Duties: The Academic Advisor will work with students to develop customized plans as early as their first year to track academic coursework in alignment with career goals. 

The advisor:

  • Works with students regarding their academic core and/or departmental requirements, appropriate class selection, academic policies/procedures, and campus resources.
  • Assists students with identification of long-term goals and career plans. Works to position students to meet requirements for graduation while preparing them to achieve future career goals.
  • Interprets University policies, procedures, and curriculum to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Maintains student and advising records in accordance with state/federal law and university regulations.
  • Monitors student performance and resolves student issues with the implementation of academic resources and/or programs.
  • Models the core values of the National Association of Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Academic Advisor.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, or related field from an accredited college or university.  Master’s degree preferred in related fields.  One to two years’ experience is required. Experience effectively maintaining a caseload of project participants and providing them with services and activities as indicated on individual academic plans. Experience advising college students with academic and non-academic matters.

Job Summary

Utilizes basic advising knowledge, theory, and practical experience to serve as an academic liaison for students to identify academic and career goals, select appropriate courses, and plan for degree attainment. Manages small, routine projects.


Essential Functions 

• Teach and train students. • Read and write effectively at a post-secondary level. • Communicate with students with verbal and non-verbal levels of observation. • Use word processing and computer hardware and operate job-related software and other technology.


Physical Effort 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
