Academic Advisor, Student & Academic Affairs - School of Nursing - Georgetown University Medical Center

Georgetown’s School of Nursing is dedicated to providing a world-class education in the Jesuit tradition. At the undergraduate level, we currently offers a traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing. At the graduate level, there are multiple programs of study administered on-campus and online, such as: Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwifery/Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice, Doctor of Nursing Practice, and Clinical Nurse Leader.

Its Student & Academic Affairs supports students during the admission and decision-making process phase through enrollment until graduation; and cultivates campus partnerships and collaborates with faculty, staff and student leaders in order to facilitate student success. Specifically, this office provides academic advisement in the areas of course registration, degree progression planning, and personal and professional development focusing on the following areas: study abroad, internships, graduate and medical school admissions, career counseling, service work, and a variety of other student-centered issues; and serves approximately 1,400 students in traditional on-campus programs and graduate online programs.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Dean, the Academic Advisor for Student & Academic Affairs is a member of the School of Nursing executive leadership team, fostering students’ academic and personal growth through the collegiate lifespan and closely interfacing with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and other educational partners.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree – preference for Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field
  • At least 3 to 5 years in a higher education setting - preference for experience supervising diverse teams
  • Ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously and respond to ever-changing environments comprised of a diverse group of stakeholders
  • An appreciation for the value of a strong undergraduate education
  • High energy, precise attention to detail
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent listening, writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a team
  • Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of a diverse student population
  • Interest and ability in computer software applications

Preferred qualifications

  • Health education experience
  • Familiarity with various data management systems, including Banner, Cognos, and SalesForce CRM
