Academic Advisor

The First-Year Engineering advising team serves approximately 3000 engineering students and helps students transition from high school to college and then from the First-Year Engineering Program to one of the Engineering professional schools. This advising role will include assistance with course selection, navigating Banner/MyPurdue Plan and the registration system, providing information to assist students with choosing an engineering major, career planning, and related advising duties. You will communicate with students having academic difficulty as well as work with a team of faculty, and other Purdue professionals to maximize student access and success in the First-Year Engineering Program as well as Purdue overall.

This is a hybrid position (4 days on-site / 1 day remote).

First-Year Engineering at Purdue University is the launchpad for all engineering students at Purdue. Through this program, we educate thousands of students annually, providing them the time and resources to explore the engineering disciplines offered at the college and advise them to follow educational paths that spark something brilliant inside of them. We train, test, and challenge our students, encouraging them to identify their strengths, redirect their weaknesses, and define their resolve, setting them on course to go beyond what they thought was possible.

Education and Experience:

• Master's degree in a field relevant to the position
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to:
  • collaborate with faculty, staff, current and prospective students, parents, and families
  • problem solve and utilize campus resources for individuals or groups
  • willingness to work in a changing environment
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

• Undergraduate student development and recruitment

• Field related to major advised
