The Academic Advisor I, complies with all state, system, and university policies, regulations, rules, procedures, guidelines, and directives in a timely manner and adhere to confidentiality policies (FERPA).

Are you ready to help guide the next generation of Aggies through their academic programs?  Mays Business School at Texas A&M University has opportunities available for Academic Advisors who are problem solvers, customer-service oriented, and who can keep details organized to assist students with navigating their degree programs expertly and efficiently.  We need you to bring your extensive experience, interpersonal dynamism, and great listening skills to champion our students’ success and development. Your professional growth is important to us too so, as an Academic Advisor, we will provide funding support for your professional development. Opportunities to contribute:

  • Deliver academic advising to current and prospective undergraduate students in the Mays Business School
  • Assist students with course selection, review degree plans, and guide students on academic, probationary, and financial concerns
  • Advise students on how best to fulfill degree requirements; course adjustments; Q-drops
  • Work with prospective transfer students and readmitted students
  • Counsel students who are looking to change their major
  • Stay up to date on student policies, deadlines, procedures, appeals processes
  • Refer students to appropriate resources when needed
  • Work to improve academic advising services
  • Enhance retention and graduations rates
  • Assist with New Student Conferences
  • Develop community within and lifelong affinity for the Mays Business School

Qualifications:

Academic Advisor I

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • No experience required

Academic Advisor II

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years of experience in advising, recruiting, teaching, coaching, Student Affairs, or other related areas

A well-qualified candidate for these positions will also possess:

  • Master’s degree or above in education, counseling, or general subject area of placement
  • Academic advising within a higher education institution
  • NACADA or TEXAAN certificate of participation
  • Knowledge of Texas A&M advising programs & systems such as Compass and Howdy
