What you need to know

Salary Range: $50-52K Commensurate with candidates experience

Position Details:This position will work 50% remotely and the work hours will be non-standard, due to the needs of the student body being supported (non-traditional, part-time, 100% on-line).

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Five years' experience in advising, recruiting, teaching, coaching, Student Affairs or other related area

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications

  • Knowledge of student information systems, degree planning, and degree audits

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely

  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality

  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Responsibilities:

  • Advisor To Students - Serves as the primary advisor to students in TAMU Law grad programs in various curricula. Advises students concerning their education goals, academic requirements, and related personal concerns. Refers students to appropriate University and School of Law resources regarding accommodations, wellness, financial advising, etc. Approves and signs degree plans, course substitutions, add/drops/Q drops, withdraws, and change of curriculums. Approves, establishes, and monitors student probationary terms. Approves and signs no grade drops, no record drops and applications for readmissions. Provides advising and/or direction to graduate students, faculty, and staff related to all aspects of progressing through the graduate program. Interacts and coordinates with various departments regarding student success. Monitors student progress and degree requirements. Verifies completion of degree requirements. Interprets policies and procedures. Interacts with faculty to provide an exchange of information and to enhance the advisement of students. Assists students dealing with advising concerns about procedures, timelines, and other processing-related matters. Coordinates the direction of professional and support personnel. In the absence of the supervisor, directs functions of the office.

  • Student Success & Retention; Student Experience - Develops and maintains strategic communication and outreach to guide student success and foster retention. Tracks student retention throughout the student experience. Develops and presents training materials and programs. Oversees and/or conducts new student orientation. Provides oversight of students during new student orientation and registers new students. Develops and supervises systems for maintaining records of student contacts.  Provides regular oversight and monitoring of student participation and success in campus LMS, which includes checking student participation and coursework in Canvas to ensure deadlines are kept, the student is not falling behind, and that the student is meeting minimum grade standards. Coordinates and serves as a lead on communications regarding topics such as degree deadlines, departmental updates, advising reminders, procedures, and various processes. Helps determine which communication is necessary/appropriate for students, based on where they are in the degree plan. Drafts communications for the Assistant Director and Assistant Deans review. Designs and implements student support programs and connects students with University and School of Law resources to foster retention.

  • Administrative / Records - Provides recommendations to leadership on the development and maintenance of student and administrative records. Interprets policies and procedures. Interacts with faculty to provide an exchange of information and to enhance the advisement of students. Prepares academic and advising reports. Assists in the development of grant and funding proposals for enhancement programs for students.  Develops and revises information material. Oversees and on occasion, assists with organizational and administrative tasks, such as scanning student files into a secured digital drive/storage; helping schedule appointment with faculty advisor/ upper-level program coordinator/ etc.; tracking/ record of communication w/students w/r/t advising, registration, reg. holds, participation in online courses. Stays abreast and maintains knowledge of University graduate student policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
