The Academic Advisor IV, under general supervision, advises first and second year students co-enrolled in a remote Texas A&M Engineering Academy concerning their educational or career goals, academic requirements, and related personal concerns.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for designing and organizing semester schedules for the Engineering courses taught at the partner colleges; work closely with partner colleges on cohort schedules; coordinate with EASA on schedules for student success courses.
Serve as the lead advisor for the Engineering Academies.
Advises first and second year students co-enrolled in a remote Texas A&M Engineering Academy by:
Interpreting University and college policies and procedures;
Assisting with and presenting at New Student Orientations;
Advising students on their educational and career goals, student services, degree programs, academic schedules, course schedules, academic requirements, progress toward entry-to-a-major;
Referring students to existing resources for personal and professional development;
Supplementing in-person advising and student engagement with on-line virtual advising.
Monitors student registration; approves and enters course adjustments, prerequisites, add/drops, Q drops, withdrawals, and change of curriculum requests; and prepares various academic and advising reports.
Works in liaison with the Texas A&M Engineering Academic and Student Affairs academic advising team and the Engineering Academy faculty to provide an exchange of information and to enhance the advisement of students.
Develops and presents training materials and programs.
Coordinates the direction of professional and support personnel. May supervise or direct functions of the office.
Responsible for development, management, evaluation, and success of students.
Extensive travel.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Experience:
Five years of related experience in advising and recruiting.
Preferred Experience:
Experience working with first generation, “non-traditional” students, and students in transition.
Registrations, Certifications, and Licenses:
Texas class “C” Drivers License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to relate well with a diverse population
Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and customer service skills
Maintains attention to detail and utilizes sound judgement
Ability to use word processing programs and spreadsheets
Other Requirements:
Travel required.
Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
