The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Academic Advisor to serve as a member of the Student Affairs team. The Academic Advisor IV, under general supervision, is responsible for advising students concerning their educational or career goals, academic requirements, and related personal concerns and monitoring their progress in the curriculum.

Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Five years of experience in advising, recruiting, teaching, coaching, Student Affairs or other related areas.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

  • Knowledge of student information systems, degree planning, and degree audits.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Education or Counseling or a related field

  • Two years of related experience in student advising or counseling




Responsibilities:
  • Academic Advising: Provides academic advice and guidance to students. Advise students on both clerkship and elective schedules. Meets with and refers students to available resources and departments. Both group and class meetings and individual appointments.

  • Meeting with Students: Meets with and refers students to available resources and departments. Both group/class meetings and individual appointments. Maintains records of student contacts.

  • Coordinates Special Program: Coordinates the Peer Tutoring Program. Plans and organizes annual elective fair.

  • Schedule & Registration Management: Assures students are registered each semester with set timelines. Assists students with adds/ drops, withdrawals, and changes of curriculum. Manage enrollment rosters (LOA, adjusting grad year, transitioning between programs.

  • Student Academic Record Review and Tracking: Reviews academic records and refers to Academic Support Services. Monitors student progress and degree requirements. Verifies completion of degree requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.
