Essential functions (job duties):

Job Purpose
Establish and coordinate the Detroit Humanities Hub, a major public humanities initiative located within the Humanities Center. Manage the daily operations, projects and grant work within the Humanities Center. Administer the Center’s programs, handle communications with faculty and stakeholders.

Essential Functions

Manage day-to-day operations for the Detroit Humanities Hub Assist with the establishment and management of the Detroit Humanities Hub; coordinate with the director and staff on day-to-day operations of the Hub; collaborate with director and staff on budget of the Hub; collaborate with the director on strategic planning for the Hub; liaise with community partners to support the Center’s community outreach in the following areas: arts and cultural heritage, community activism, education, entrepreneurship and industry, medical humanities.

Manage internship program for the Detroit Humanities Hub Facilitate incorporation of the Humanities Clinic into the Detroit Humanities Hub; identify and secure community partners for the Clinic; solicit and vet internship applications; match interns to community partner projects for the Clinic; implement intern orientation, cultural competency training, and check-in meetings; assess results of intern placements via surveys of community partners; assist with workshops, networking events, and annual networking luncheon for students, alumni, and community partners; provide mentoring for graduate students in applied and community-engaged research.

Develop and manage grants Write grants to support the Detroit Humanities Hub; collaborate with Director and staff on implementation of grants received; serve as in-house grant writer and consultant for public humanities projects .

Collaborate on programming for the Detroit Humanities Hub Conceptualize and implement events for the Hub; oversee fellowship competitions for the Hub; work with community partners to solicit grant proposals for projects funded by the Hub; create and oversee a podcast for the Hub; develop programming to support diverse career pathways in the public humanities for graduate students in the humanities.

Assist with administration of the Humanities Center Work closely with the Director to expand the public outreach of the Center; assist in drafting the Center’s Annual Report; assist in managing the Center’s staff; assist with other administrative tasks as needed.

Perform other related duties as assigned.


Unique duties:
Qualifications:

Education
Bachelor’s degree in related field.
Master’s degree in a humanities field: highly desirable, but not required
Doctoral degree in humanities field, preferred.

Experience   Intermediate (3 to 4 years job-related experience)
Experience in program administration, managing interns and programming/projects for non-profits.
Experience in planning and running large-scale events. Experience in grant writing researching, preparing and submitting grant applications.

Preferred Experience in budget management, personnel management and strategic planning

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent knowledge of the humanities

Knowledge of best practices in the public humanities.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing. Ability to work collaboratively with others throughout the department, division, and university.

Skills in marketing, publicity and fundraising. Ability to manage projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Can perform work with close attention to detail. Can set daily priorities on workflow.

The ability to manage student workers.

Experience in coordinating an academic program and/or unit.

Experience in collaborating with community partners.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Docs.

Ability to collect, analyze, summarize, and interpret data. The ability to present data in a visual manner. Ability to develop and deliver presentations. Strong presence, poise, and persuasiveness; succinct; ability to establish credibility and trust quickly with a diverse group of stakeholders.

Excellent time management and organization skills.

Demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative environment.

Ability to work independently.

Working Conditions
