Job Summary : The Academic Advisor IV, under general supervision, recruits and advises students concerning their educational or career goals, academic requirements, and related personal concerns

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of related experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Knowledge of student information systems, degree planning, and degree audits.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Education or Counseling or a related field
  • Two years of related experience in student advising or counseling
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and communities

Other Requirements:

  • Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. Travel required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides academic advice and guidance to students.
  • Provides input on probationary status decisions.
  • Advise students on both clerkship and elective schedules.
  • Create and give presentations to students
  • Meets with and refers students to available resources and departments. Both group and class meetings and individual appointments.
  • Assures students are registered each semester with set timelines.
  • Assists students with adds/ drops, withdrawals, and changes of curriculum.
  • Manage enrollment rosters(LOA, adjusting grad year, transitioning between programs
  • Reviews academic records and test scores on file for course recommendations.
  • Monitors student progress and degree requirements.
  • Verifies completion of degree requirements. Reviews and provides input on scholarship applications.
  • Ensure students turn in SDL each semester in the timeframe, and assigned faculty provide feedback.
  • Track SDL plans with students.
  • Each advisor will coordinate an academic related initiative or program (tutoring program, Self-directed learning program, advising software management, etc.)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
