What you need to know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four years of experience in advising, recruiting, teaching, coaching, Student Affairs or other related area.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Knowledge of student information systems, degree planning, and degree audits.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills, Howdy and COMPASS.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Academic Advising - Perform advisor duties working with undergraduate students from the School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) with department leadership and faculty on issues related to undergraduate degree plan, catalog changes, scheduling and responding to advising related issues within the division. Provide academic advice to undergraduate students. Meet with current and prospective students in areas to advise on college admission and readmission, professional concerns, housing, financial aid, student services, degree programs, academic schedules, course schedules, course planning and selections, major options and career and education goals.
  • Administrative Duties - Provide Program Coordinator and Assistant Director with data capabilities and analytics to support enrollment management efforts, class scheduling projections and other reports as required. Organize and develop presentation and information for change of major meetings, informational meetings, new student conferences and recruitment events for prospective freshmen and transfer students. Assist in the training of new advisors and provide guidance and support to the other advisors assigned to the school degree plans. Supervise student workers. Coordinate with College level learning community faculty. Develop and maintain training manuals and documentation of standard operating procedures.
  • Recruitment and Retention - Facilitate the application and admission of student, and retention of students. Collaborate with Marilyn Kent Byrne Student Success Center staff on issues related to student retention. Respond to inquiries from students, prospective students and parents.
  • Student Services - Advise students with academic, probationary, financial concerns, related personal concerns, and determines possible courses of action. Advise students on academic preparation, time management, test anxiety, and may refer students to other university resources. 
  • Updates Student Records - Process add/drops, Q-drops, change of curriculum and course substitutions. Has knowledge of and interpret University and College policies and procedures. Maintain records of student contacts. Use Compass for student registration, degree audit, course prerequisites, etc. and other duties as assigned.
