Who we are

The Department of Kinesiology and Sports Management (KNSM) is the largest academic department at Texas A&M University and generates over 98,000 credit hours and 203,000 (Modified) weighted student credit hours each year. As one of four departments in the School of Education & Human Development, KNSM is currently home to over 3,500 undergraduate students, 246 master’s students, 70 doctoral students (3,921 total), and 87 funded graduate assistants. KNSM  is an active member of the American Kinesiology Association  (AKA). The department joins in the efforts of the AKA to promote the discipline of Kinesiology as a field of study and to highlight its applications that affect all through research to enhance people's health. The Academic Advisor III, is responsible for serving as senior level position which may be required to recruit and advise graduate students concerning their educational or career goals, academic requirements, and related personal concerns; provides information on and refers student to University resources that can assist them in meeting their needs or solving their problems; coordinates and processes graduate admissions; coordinates and informs graduate funding opportunities; may develop or oversee projects.The selected candidate will subscribe to and support our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability as stated above. Compensation: $36,512.00 - $46,924.80 (based upon selected hire's qualifications)

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four years experience in advising, recruiting, teaching, coaching, Student Affairs or other related area.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in a responsible management position, preferably in higher education.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of TAMU admissions system; knowledge of OGAPS policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated experience with working with diverse populations. 

Responsibilities:

  • Student Advising - Advises on-campus and distance MS and PhD students on degree program in the department, course planning and selections, career and academic goals. Conducts degree plan audits, processes Q drops, add/drops and withdrawals. Advises students with academic concerns and determines possible courses of action. Processes required graduate paperwork through OGAPS and the thesis office. Utilizes Compass database to process registration, Q drops, limit overrides, etc. Communicates frequently with current students to inform them of upcoming events, deadlines, and opportunities.
  • Event Planning - Serves as contact and coordinator for campus showcase and PhD orientation events. Assists advising team with graduation reception and MS orientations.
  • Prospective Student Recruitment - Responds to inquiries via email, phone and in-person in a timely manner about on-campus on online graduate programs from students. Has knowledge of University, College, and Departmental policies and procedures.  Provides guidance and advice to prospective students in areas concerning graduate admissions requirements and deadlines. Serves to facilitate the applications and admissions for students. Assists with marketing and outreach efforts as need.
  • Administrative Assistance - Maintains database of current students and student files. Updates CEHD database with pertinent information.  May develop and revise information materials and handbooks. Assists the department graduate community by making room reservations, compiling agenda items, and maintaining eCampus page.Performs other duties as assigned.
