Job Description

Responsibilities:

Provides academic advice and guidance to both undergraduate and graduate students. Advises students with academic, probationary, and financial concerns and determines possible courses of action. Approves and signs degree plans, course substitutions, add/drops, Q drops, withdrawals, and change of curriculums. Approves, establishes, and monitors student probationary terms. May approve applications for readmissions. Verifies completion of degree requirements. Submits adjustments and curricular exceptions. Assist students with information needed for scholarship applications. Monitors student progress and degree requirements. Designs and implements student support programs and serves as an ombudsperson to facilitate retention. Meets with and refers students to available resources. Assists in the development of systems for maintaining records of student contacts. Develops and presents training materials and programs. Assists in conducting new student conferences. Provides oversight of students during new student conferences and registers new students.

Responds to inquiries from undergraduate students and their families regarding admission procedures, degree programs, major options, and career and education goals, utilizing knowledge of University and College policies and procedures. May provide support for recruiting and admissions of graduate student applicants. May responds to inquiries from, meets with and maintains contact with prospective graduate students, communicates information about the graduate program and guides them through the application process. May maintain a database of information about and communications with prospective graduate students. May assist with assembling application packages and participate in recruiting visits of prospective graduate students. May communicate admissions decisions with each prospective student.

May advise current graduate students on policies and procedures at the university and college level.  Advise on deadlines set by GPS, ISSS, and other university offices.  May teach courses. Interprets policies and procedures. Interacts with faculty to provide an exchange of information and to enhance the advisement of students. Prepares academic and advising reports. Assists in the development of grant and funding proposals for enhancement programs for students. Develops and revises student informational material, handbooks, and newsletters. Coordinates the direction of professional and support personnel. Completes special projects, reports, and other duties, as needed.

Required Education and Experience:

-Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
-Four years of related experience.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
-Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.

-Knowledge of student information systems, degree planning, and degree audits.
-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

-Ability to present information clearly and concisely.

-Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

-Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

-Ability to work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
