What we want

The Academic Advisor III in the Qatar Student Experience Office at Texas A&M University in College Station serves as the primary point of contact for students moving between the Texas A&M University College Station Campus and the Qatar campus. They will use their knowledge of college policy to advise students on registration, degree requirements, and financial process. The selected candidate should be aware of the culture of Qatar to help students transition between the two campuses. The selected candidate will work in College Station but will support activities on both campuses. What you need to know

Employees Supervised: Up to 2 student workers

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Four years' experience in advising, recruiting, teaching, coaching, Student Affairs or other related area

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures, monitors degrees, interacts with college and university officials regarding registration, degree requirements, and financial processes

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

Other Requirements or Other Factors:

  • The person selected for this position should be aware of the culture in Qatar and the opportunities available for classes at both TAMUQ and other partner universities in Education City to assist in meeting the Qatar Foundation multiversity KPI that is part of the agreement between TAMU and QF.

Preferred Experience:

  • A person with cross-cultural knowledge

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Should be able to speak in both English and Arabic language

Responsibilities:

  • Student Advising - Point of contact for advising for courses available to students at TAMUQ and within Education City. Point of contact for professional concerns, student services, degree programs, academic scheduling, add/drops, withdraws, change of curriculum, etc. Responds to inquiries from students, parents and sponsors. Monitors student progress and degree requirements. Verifies completion of degree requirements. Designs and implements student support programs and serves as an ombudsperson to facilitate retention. Serves as point of contact regarding cultural aspects of Qatar compared to the US. 

  • Develop and implement programs and services for students - Work as an administrator for new and developing student services for students who are involved in study abroad. Develop academic and cultural orientation programs for students

  • Supervise student workers - Give detailed instructions and directions to employees supervised.

  • Manage the Joint Advisory Board (JAB) - ManageTAMUQ Joint Advisory Board documents, website, and database. Performs other duties as assigned.
