Job Summary
Pre-Law Advisors provide educational services and support to UT Dallas students and alumni interested in attending law school/pursuing legal careers. As students and alumni explore, establish, and achieve law school admission, responsibilities of the Pre-Law Advisor include:
  • Informing advisees about skills/knowledge for success in law school, and suggesting curricular/co-curricular opportunities to develop these areas.
  • Providing information on law schools including rankings/other statistics and evaluating advisees’ chances of obtaining admission.
  • Assisting advisees with the law school application process, inclusive of personal statements, letters of recommendation, and taking the LSAT.
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years related experience; or Master’s degree.
Preferred Education and Experience
Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university.
Preferred Education: Master’s Degree in a field related to advising and/or education.
Preferred Experience:
  • Three to five years of experience working in higher education
  • Two years of experience in Pre-Law advising at a college/university
  • A broad knowledge of law school admissions
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, administrators and others
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Pre-Law Advising Center is in the Office of Undergraduate Education and works closely with faculty and staff in a busy, collaborative environment. Additionally, the Pre-Law Advisor will:
  • Assist the Director of the Pre-Law Advising Center with programs, workshops, and outreach to students as they make their decision whether to pursue law school.
  • Meet with students individually to provide basic information about the requirements for law school admissions and assist each student with the development of an admissions timeline.
  • Participate in New Student Orientation and other recruitment events.
  • Collect law school admission data and assist the Director in the preparation of pre-law reports.
  • Act on behalf of the Pre-Law Advising Center to maintain the network of faculty, attorneys, alumni, and law students as advising resources.
  • Utilize social media, online communication platforms, and website editing tools to update others about events, news, etc. related to the Pre-Law Advising Center.
  • Conceptualize and conduct informational email campaigns to identify and inform pre-law students across all campus academic majors.
  • Perform other related duties.

The successful candidate will be highly organized, self-disciplined, and able to work independently and as a part of a team

Additional Information
After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/partly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. May be required to use personal computer and other standard office equipment. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
