Job Description:

Engagement of CALS Biology students through proactive, developmental advising:

  • Deliver academic advising and educational communication for undergraduate students in the CALS Biology major.
  • Interpret educational and administrative rules and policies, recommend and implement new and improved methods for effective delivery of advising and educational communication. Plan and implement major-related events and programs for current and prospective students.
  • Develop and maintain graduation plans with Biology students to ensure students are meeting critical tracking and specialization requirements.

Collaboration and engagement internal to the CALS Dean’s Office:

  • Support the CALS Dean’s office with outreach to CALS Biology students in Innovation Academy.
  • Participate in the monitoring and retention of CALS at-risk students in collaboration with the Associate Dean.
  • Inform at-risk students of campus-wide available resources that support retention.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of CALS events, including, but not limited to, Commencement, Preview, and Gator Encounter.
  • Develop and disseminate print and web-based materials for the CALS Biology major. Participate in college-wide events.

Collaboration and engagement external to the CALS Dean’s Office and Biology Major:

  • Develop strong working relationships with other departments in the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) and across campus.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments. Inform students of the availability of more specialized majors that might be a better fit for their educational needs.
  • Direct students as needed to appropriate resources in the college and across campus, including, but not limited to, career planning and placement, academic support, health and wellness, and pre-professional advising.
  • Participate in Preview as a Preview Advisor. This is contingent on acceptance from the Preview Program.
  • Participate in the CALS Advising Council and engage actively in the UF advising community through the Undergraduate Advising Council.

Assessment, data analysis and reporting:

  • Collaborate with data analyst to develop and maintain databases and other student files.
  • Compile and report data related to enrollment, retention, etc.
Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience 

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree in education, counseling, or academic field related to the college and one year of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree in similar fields with two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree preferred. Experience advising and counseling undergraduate students preferred. Experience in developing and maintaining electronic databases preferred.
Working knowledge of University of Florida regulations and procedures related to advising and student services preferred.
