This position is essential for our college's growth, as one will be responsible for recruiting and advising undergraduate students on their career goals and academic requirements. One must demonstrate excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills and presentation skills. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of experience in advising, recruiting, training, teaching, counseling, coaching, student affairs, or other related areas.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, listening, and written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must be an effective communicator in large group (auditorium), small group (classroom), and one-on-one settings.

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.

  • Texas A&M University academic advising experience.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong computer skills.

  • Ability to utilize a student information management system such as Howdy or Compass.

  • Fluent Spanish speaker.

  • Familiarity with Mays undergraduate curriculum.

Responsibilities:

  • Academic Advising - Provides academic advice to undergraduate students. Advises or refers students and prospective students in areas concerning business school admission, professional concerns, degree programs, academic schedules, course schedules, course planning and selections, major options, and career and educational goals. Promotes high-impact learning opportunities. Advises students with academic, financial, and related personal concerns, and assists students in identifying possible courses of action. Monitors student progress and degree requirements, and fosters retention of students through mentoring, monitoring of student grades, and other support programs.

  • Student Administration, Records, and Reports  - Reviews and approves degree plan adjustment and curriculum change requests. Approves, establishes, and monitors student probationary terms as necessary. Advises and refers students on academic preparation, time management, test anxiety, and study skills. Answers and responds to inquiries from students and parents. Understands interprets and enforces University and Mays rules, policies, and procedures. Uses Compass for assisting students with student registration, degree audit, course prerequisites, etc. May exercise independent judgment for adjustment of student records. Prepares various academic and advising reports. Serves on Mays committees as needed.

  • High-Impact Learning Opportunities - Performs administrative duties for specialized programs and assists with specialized high-impact student activities. Implements projects. Communicates with undergraduate students and Mays staff regarding recruitment. Attends University-wide meetings, creates presentation materials, and assists with the organization and coordination of special programs. Maintains records. Performance of duties requires travel.

  • Liaison - Interacts with faculty to provide an exchange of information and to enhance advisement of students. Serves as a liaison among Mays’ Undergraduate Advising Office (UAO), Dean’s Office, and other Mays and University offices regarding admissions, registration, degree audits, advising, and counseling. Assists in the development and revision of informational materials, handbooks, processes, and documents for students, departments, and Mays. May be cross-trained in responsibilities of other UAO staff. Represents Mays on University committees, sub-committees, task forces, projects, and other associations as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.
