Job Description
Job Summary:
- The Academic Advisor II, under general supervision, recruits and advises undergraduate students concerning their career goals and academic requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Provides academic advice and guidance to students. Advises students with academic, probationary, and financial concerns and determines possible courses of action. Approves and signs degree plans, course substitutions, add/drops, Q drops, withdraws, and change of curriculums. Approves, establishes, and monitors student probationary terms. May approve and sign no grade drops, no record drops, and applications for readmissions.
- Verifies completion of degree requirements. Reviews and provides input on transfer and change of curriculum applications. Monitors student progress and degree requirements. Designs and implements student support programs and serves as an ombudsperson to facilitate retention.
- Answers inquiries and provides information to prospective students, students, and parents. Meets with and refers students to available resources and departments. Assists in the development of systems for maintaining records of student contacts.
- Develops and presents training materials and programs. Assists with family visits and group tours. Assists in conducting new student orientation. Provides oversight of students during new student orientation and registers new students.
- Interprets policies and procedures. Interacts with faculty to provide an exchange of information and to enhance the advisement of students. Prepares academic and advising reports.
- Develops and revises informational material, handbooks, and newsletters. Develops and conducts high school, community college, and college recruitment programs.
- Organizes Honors student advising and events for sharing information on requirements of the program and process for obtaining research and honors credit.
- Supports department through course scheduling and classroom reservations. Exercises independent decision making in anticipating and addressing long-term course scheduling issues.
- Exercises independent decision making in organizing and executing student academic care and sustentation events.
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Experience:
- Two years of related experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent knowledge of Office suite of work processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software and of the student information and management systems.
- Knowledge of degree planning and degree audits.
- Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skill.
- Great office teammate and worker.
