The School of Architecture offers undergraduate and graduate professional programs to prepare individuals to enter the professions of architecture, landscape architecture, construction management, urban and regional planning. The planning, design and construction of the world’s buildings, cities and landscapes involve a variety of professional skills. We are looking for an Academic Advisor II, to join our pioneering College of Architecture. This position is essential for our college's growth, as one will be responsible for recruiting and advising undergraduate students on their career goals and academic requirements. One must demonstrate excellent customer services skills and must be able to find and provide referral information that will assist students in meeting their needs, or solving their problems. Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or any combination of experience and education.
  • Two years’ experience in advising, recruiting, teaching, coaching, student affairs or other related area.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of student information systems, degree planning, and degree audits.

Preferred Experience:

  • At least two years of academic advising experience.

Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Advising - Provides academic advice to College of Architecture undergraduate students. Advises or refer students and prospective students in areas concerning college admission and readmission, professional concerns, housing, financial aid, student services, degree programs, academic schedules, course schedules, course planning and selections, major options, and career and educational goals.  Interacts with other University offices.  Prepares academic and advising reports. Monitors degree requirements for graduation.
  • Retention - Fosters retention of identified groups of students through activities such as mentoring, monitoring of student grades, and other support programs; advises students with academic, probationary, and financial concerns; reviews degree plans with students and processes add/drops, Q drops, withdrawals, and change of curriculums. Actively travels to identified high school and community colleges for recruiting purposes. Represents the Environmental Design Program in Aggieland Saturday and other on campus recruiting activities. Implements projects to achieve specific activities or outcomes for recruiting and retention purposes.
  • Administration - Refers students on academic preparation, time management, test anxiety, and study skills to other University resources. Monitors degree requirements. Interacts with college and other University offices regarding admissions, registration, advising and counseling; maintains records of student contacts. May supervise projects. Develops and revises informational material, handbooks, and newsletters.
  • Event Planning - Responsible for coordinating academic success seminar each semester and academic resource fair each fall and coordinating with other academic departments.
  • Recruiting - Visits high schools to present and distribute information concerning University programs and opportunities; serves to facilitate the application and admission of students. Conducts various recruitment programs. Develop contacts with high school and community college teachers, counselors, and administrators as a mechanism for identifying students for recruitment.  Performs other duties as assigned.
