Job Summary

Due to a retirement, the Undergraduate Programs Office within the Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University is accepting applications for an Academic Advisor II position who will work closely with individual students and small groups to assist in their completion of degree requirements. Duties include assisting with recruitment and retention programs for first year and transfer students; leading orientation class(es); providing administrative support to the Undergraduate Student Services Office as well as to the students and faculty in the Ivy College of Business; and assisting in the administration of academic policies and curricular standards.

The successful candidate will have the ability to successfully communicate verbally, visually, and in writing; excellent computer skills; and strong interpersonal skills. The candidate will also possess knowledge of student development, the ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts and the ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals. All staff members are expected to interact collegially and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics.

Job Duties

45% Advising

Provide academic advising for business undergraduates and participate in related activities of the Ivy Undergraduate Programs office

20% Recruitment and Retention

Assist with recruitment and retention programs for first year and transfer students

15% Administrative

Provide administrative support to the Undergraduate Student Services Office and students and faculty in the Ivy College of Business

15% Orientation Class Leadership

Serve as a session leader/instructor for 1-2 sections of BUSAD 102 (Orientation) in fall; potentially one class (BUSAD 103) in the spring semester

5% other duties as assigned

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.

• Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
• Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
• Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems

• May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
• May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
• Provides guidance to students
