Temple University’s College of Public Health seeks an Academic Advisor I to serve in the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. The Academic Advisor I advises students concerning schedules, majors, hours, probation and/ or suspension. Our advising philosophy creates a partnership between advisors, students, and faculty, by intention and design. The unit strives to empower students to understand the meaning and purpose of higher education and foster their educational, personal, and professional development toward academic success and lifelong learning. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:  The Academic Advisor provides comprehensive academic advising to students in the College of Public Health and assists them in making decisions affecting their academic progress; The Academic Advisor provides administrative counsel and personal guidance by interpreting the relevant academic policies and guidelines for the University and College and by offering an objective analysis of students' academic records and academic and professional goals; Academic Advisors are expected to respect the diversity of our students, not only in terms of their race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, and political views, but also in terms of their career aspirations. These services are geared to achieving, maintaining, or improving student success; The Academic Advisor works closely with faculty and staff and meets with students on an individual and group basis to discuss and disseminate information regarding curriculum requirements, academic policy, and other issues as they arise.; The Academic Advisor also maintains academic records, reviews, and evaluates transcripts and interprets relevant University policy as appropriate; The Academic Advisor assists in coordinating New Student Orientation, graduation clearance and diploma ceremony activities and may provide direct advising services during New Student Orientation; Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years’ experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Master's degree preferred.

Required Skills & Abilities:
*Ability to advise, assess and evaluate curricular needs for students to ensure correct development towards graduation standards.

*Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills; along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of students, faculty and staff.

*The ability to refer students to appropriate support services available through Temple University (e.g. Student Success Center, CARE Team, Tuttleman Counseling, Cherry Pantry etc.) when necessary

.*Ability to prioritize well and focus on completion of tasks and objectives while under stress of demanding work schedule.

*Knowledge and use of personal computers for internet research and database management.

*Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred:
*An understanding of and interest in all the health and social work disciplines offered by the College of Public Health, specifically Health Professions.

This position is temporarily assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
