Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Health Professions Advising Office (HPAO) is a busy and efficient health careers advising unit, serving over 3,500 students across campus and in all majors. The advisor will provide advising services to students pursuing medical and dental school admissions and other professional tracks as demand requires, serve on the Pre-health Committee, and evaluate student credentials for professional school applications. Significant technical writing is involved.
The advisor develops and presents workshops on the health professions, coordinates presentations for campus partners, and co-chairs the annual professional school conference. With Assistant Dean, compiles data for annual report.
This position serves as the liaison for the Shady Grove campus students and other transfer student partnerships. While this position manages several responsibilities, 1:1 student advising is the primary job function.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree and 1-2 years of relevant professional experience or the equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability and desire to work with diverse populations.
Ability to use computer software and learn campus software advising programs. Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.
Preferences:
Master’s Degree from Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, Science or health-related field.  At least one year of direct service delivery to students.
