Description of primary duties and responsibilities: | This position is eligible for flexible work arrangements, including remote/hybrid work. Fayetteville State University employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station. Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit: The Bronco One Stop is a centralized space for students to access common student services to strengthen their ability to navigate Fayetteville State University. The goal of Bronco One Stop is to enhance the student experience with the application process, academic records, financial aid, making payments, speaking with an advisor to register for classes, gaining assistance with degree planning, receiving academic support, and navigating university resources. Fayetteville State University Advising Center’s mission is to promote student success by empowering students to achieve their academic and career aspirations. The Advising Center delivers high-quality services by providing support with educational planning, course selection, resource awareness, and success strategies. |
Description of Work Continued: | Primary Purpose of the Position: The primary purpose of the position would be to provide academic advising to pre-nursing majors. Duties & Responsibilities include: 1. Serve as initial point of contact for any prospective student interested in the nursing program. 2. Responsible for evaluation of transcripts for prospective students. 3. Serve as initial point of contact for any student who declares their major within the advisor’s department. 4. Respond to inquiries from prospective students and majors via email, phone, in- person, or campus visitations. 5. Assist students with the declaration of major process, including providing advice to those who are unable to declare their major due to their GPA or other issues. 6. Process declarations of major, enter the appropriate information into Banner, including the assignment of a faculty mentor. 7. Review transcripts, certifications, or other official forms identifying approved academic credit and evaluate the course equivalencies for the university core curriculum and the degree program. 8. Develop an academic degree plan for each pre-nursing student which provides a clear path to earning a degree. 9. Create and maintain appropriate records for each student which contains all appropriate documents, recommendations, and follow-ups. 10. Provide on-going academic advising for each student in the major, which includes: a. Assisting the student with the selection of their courses each semester. b. Completing appropriate student paperwork, such as requests for course waivers/substitutions, course overloads, permission to take courses at other institutions, course repeats, etc. c. Monitoring the progress of majors toward graduation and intervening with majors to encourage registration, appropriate course selection, use of available academic support and other resources, timely application for graduation, etc. d. Complete the process of clearing students for graduation. 11. Provide guidance to students experiencing academic difficulty or other problems 12. Create a success plan for each student in academic difficulty and monitor and document the progress of these students. 13. Act as a liaison between the departments and students, as well as other appropriate units within the university, such as Admissions, the Registrar, Catalog Officer, etc. 14. Attend all department meetings to provide information and support in the areas of academic advising, student concerns, and potential course scheduling, curriculum, or catalog issues. 15. Provide updates on advising to appropriate units. 16. Provide reports on majors, cohorts, and other advising or enrollment issues as requested. 17. Participate in programs designed to recruit and retain students and majors, such as the Fall Preview, Spring Open House, Majors Fair, and New Student Orientation 18. Follow up with potential students and majors to encourage them to apply. 19. Develop departmental advising materials, such as curriculum guides and newsletters, as needed. |
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements: | An earned master’s degree from an accredited institution preferably in the degree program to which they are assigned. Some work experience in higher education, preferably in academic advising, counseling admissions, enrollment management or student affairs. |
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities: | • Requires the ability to use a personal computer to complete duties and knowledge of Microsoft Office products (WORD, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as other related student management software. • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; be able to manage a wide variety of records, files, and reports. • Must have personal and professional attributes to include punctuality, diligence, commitment, integrity, teamwork, and confidentiality. • Ability to serve students through virtual advising, walk-in advising, workshops and other programming methods that best meet the needs of students. • Ability to work occasionally after 5:00pm and on weekends (especially during peak times). |
