Job Summary
The Center for Advisement and Student Excellence is accepting applications for an Academic Advisor
The position of  Academic Advisor is responsible to the Co-Directors of the Center for Advisement & Student Excellence. In this role, the advisor is responsible for comprehensive advisement of students through providing interpersonal academic, mentorship, and career counseling. They will develop graduation plans for students, monitor their progress, and identify at-risk students to support proactively. Additionally, the advisor is tasked with creating services and programs that foster overall student success. Part of the role includes resolving any administrative problems that arise for students or referring them to other helpful campus services. Finally, the advisor may perform other related duties as assigned by the Co-Directors to support students and the work of the Center for Advisement & Student Excellence.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of various university academic programs relating to general education, college, and university graduation requirements.
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures, support programs, and services.
  • Knowledge of basic student and university statistics.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to use basic office software (Microsoft Office) and advisement tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of an advisement team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
  • Ability to be flexible in a changing, and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn graduation requirements for multiple disciplines.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited or equivalent university.
  • Three years of experience working with students in higher education settings as a full-time employee or graduate assistant.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from a regionally-accredited or equivalent university, in counseling, psychology, education, or a relevant field
  • Experience in mentorship, career, and academic counseling.
