Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following position: Academic Advisor in the CMC College Advising Center.
Coastal Carolina University first and second year advising is governed by University Advising, a centralized advising office. This dynamic group of professional advisors are engaged in delivering the best possible academic advising to our students. We support professionalism, quality advising, collegiality, goal-oriented work, and professional development activities with the goal of advancing personal and student success.
Academic Advisors are responsible for advising first and second year students as the primary academic and outreach counselor. These positions work with campus partners, department chairs, and other advisors as part of a student success team. Advisors maintain regular contact with students and provide accurate, timely information on the academic major, University policies and regulations, and support services available to students.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
· Serves as primary academic and outreach counselor for all students assigned by the department(s) with which the advisor is affiliated;
· Works with department chair and other advisors in creating schedules for first-year students and meeting with them during summer orientations;
· Maintains regular contact with students and provides accurate, timely information on the academic major, University policies and regulations, and support services available to students;
· Monitors students’ academic progress, counseling them after mid-term grades and at the end of each semester;
· Audits student files to determine if students are registered for appropriate level courses; helps students prepare individual plans of study; maintains updated student records; and transfers student files to appropriate individuals during instances of students changing majors;
· Teaches one class per academic year, or fulfills the equivalent “teaching” responsibility through tutoring, conducting study sessions, or providing workshops for faculty advisors and/or students;
Provides support for student success via Beacon, the early-alert system, and provides appropriate interventions when necessary including referrals for supplemental instruction or tutoring, counseling services, and additional services as needed; and
· Works closely with assigned departments and Chairs and other advisors, keeping up-to-date with any changes in requirements or course work within the major(s).
Requirements: A master’s degree and related experience are required. Two (2) years of experience in higher education and former experience with college-level instruction is preferred. Teaching experience desired.

Academic Advisor (CB70/61122038/ FTE-S00925P), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Band: 05. Salary range: $37,860.00 (minimum) – $53,957.00 (midpoint). Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday, 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university. Some nights/week-end will be required.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree and related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years’ experience in higher education. Former experience with college-level instruction is preferred. Teaching experience desired.

This position functions in a professional capacity & requires use of sound judgement & decision making. This individual must be a self starter with the ability to prioritize tasks & meet deadlines. Prompt, courteous and accurate service to all constituents is required. Some nights/week-end will be required.
