Job Summary
The College of Liberal Arts (CLA) seeks candidates for an Academic Advisor I, II or III position. Under general supervision, the candidate will advise undergraduate students on course matriculation plans, academic action, problem resolution, opportunities for engagement and career development, and will empower students to achieve professional, personal, and academic goals. This position demonstrates proficient and comprehensive knowledge of CLA undergraduate programs, university policies, and advising applications/platforms. The selected candidate will serve the CLA Advising Office as part of a dynamic team of Advisors.

Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
  • Advise students in academic and/or curriculum matters
  • Interpret University policies, procedures, and curriculum to students and other stakeholders
  • Evaluate and maintain confidential student records
  • Work with campus partners, academic departments, and advising colleagues to provide essential advising information
  • Assist with and coordinate registration procedures
  • Conduct new student orientation programs
  • Complete academic evaluations and certification processes
  • Provide students with information regarding opportunities for professional and career development


Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
Experience:
Level I: No experience
Level II: 3 years experience in academic advising in higher education
Level III: 5 years experience in academic advising in higher education
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, a related and relevant graduate degree may substitute for two (2) year’s experience

In-depth and comprehensive knowledge of advising policies, practices, and procedures at the postsecondary level

Desired Qualifications


Desired Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Communication, Education, or a relevant field
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures in academic advising
  • Experience working with students in a higher education setting
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Experience in Microsoft Office, Banner, EAB, and DegreeWorks
