Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
Honors College staff members should possess a wide-ranging intellectual curiosity and a commitment to working with high-achieving students. The Academic Advisor and Service Coordinator works with students in two primary ways. The incumbent will be responsible for academic advising of approximately 160 students each semester, which involves assessing students’ curricular needs and opportunities and placing them in appropriate honors classes. Honors College Academic Advisors function as liaisons with first year advisors and with advisors in academic units; and possess a working knowledge of college curricula, university policy, and campus resources. Using this knowledge, Academic Advisors guide students toward a rich collegiate experience that may include research, study abroad, service learning, and/or internships culminating in graduation and post-graduation success, using available technologies to ensure accurate and effective advising. As Service Coordinator, the incumbent will cultivate and oversee service opportunities for the college, both student- and staff-focused, and serve as the advisor for SCHC student service organization(s). The incumbent will also cultivate service learning courses, and work with faculty to develop and support these courses.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 3 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Some knowledge of USC policies, procedures, and programs is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Applicants must have the ability to function in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The successful candidate will be well organized, have excellent written and oral communication skills, be able to deal diplomatically with various constituent groups and be proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint). Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret information accurately are critical. Some knowledge of USC policies, procedures, and programs is preferred.

Serves as the advisor for Honors College student service organization(s) and cultivates and supports student leadership. Leads service initiatives involving staff and college-wide projects.
