Position Details:

The Opportunity:

As the Academic Advisor, you will provide advanced-level professional advising to students in the School of Politics, Philosophy and Public Affairs. You will also provide guidance, advice, and support to faculty and staff in all matters regarding undergraduate student advising and program advising records. You will serves as primary contact for advising inquiries, student graduation, undergraduate advising policy and procedures, and administration of the undergraduate advising system for the political science undergraduate degree. You may supervise time-slip personnel.


Required Qualifications for Academic Coordinator/Advisor 1:

Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience working with students in an educational setting or related experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. 

Required Qualifications for Academic Coordinator/Advisor 2:

Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years academic advising or related experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional academic advising experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis. Positions who will lead or supervisor will require one or more years of full-time experience leading or directing the work of others.


Preferred Qualifications for both levels of position:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of electronic student data systems utilized in Higher Education.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise professional judgment and leadership, including the ability to work independently.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office such as Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively in a diverse team environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize job tasks effectively.

  • Experience conducting presentations.

  • Demonstrated experience in public speaking.

Monthly Salary:

Academic Coordinator/Advisor 1 salary range: $3,750.85 to $5,397.56

Academic Coordinator/Advisor 2 salary range: $4,061.90 to $6,092.84

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
