Academic Affairs is the largest of the Vice Chancellor areas at UC San Diego. Led by the Executive Vice Chancellor (EVC), it comprises seven academic divisions and schools, eight (8) undergraduate colleges, the University Libraries and the Division of Extended Studies. The Vice Chancellor area also includes academic support units, as well as the units under the purview of the Vice Chancellor Student Affairs and Vice Chancellor Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. The Office of the EVC is responsible for policy and procedure communication and implementation, resource administration, training and guidance, and program development for administrators, faculty, and staff within the EVC areas.

Reporting to the Dean of Undergraduate Education (DUE), the Academic Advising Program Director directs and coordinates undergraduate advising efforts across academic departments and between the undergraduate colleges and the academic departments/programs. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of functional practices and policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Cultivates internal and external contacts. Formulates and leads training for departmental advisors. In collaboration with the DUE, the Council of Deans of Academic Advising, and department/program advisors, develops policies and procedures for the student academic advising program. Develops long term organizational goals and initiates strategic planning for department advisors.

  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

  • In-depth knowledge of higher education academic and administrative units.

  • Advanced knowledge of university policies and procedures.

  • Academic background and experience in selected area of research.

  • Advanced knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices.

  • Advanced ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers and managers.

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills; including editing.

  • Expert problem-solving skills.

  • Advanced ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills. Strong analytical skills to identify problems and develop innovative.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results. Demonstrated and excellent ability to work with diverse population.

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field.

  • Skill, knowledge, ability, and willingness to actively participate and contribute to change management activities.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in relevant field: Academic Advising, Student Affairs, Student Advising, Counseling, or other related field.

  • This position has been identified as a Campus Security Authority pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), and requires immediate reporting of Clery Act crimes occurring on Clery Act geography to the UC San Diego Police Department (UCPD).


Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $101,200 - $192,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $48.47 - $92.05

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
