Position Highlights

The Department of Systems and Industrial Engineering (SIE) at the University of Arizona is accepting applications for an Academic Advising Professional II for the departments undergraduate programs in systems engineering. The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping our students navigate their academic and career outcomes. This position is a frontline contact for undergraduate students for developmental academic advising and plays a vital role in maximizing undergraduate student retention.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Advising SIE undergraduate students in the areas of policies, schedule, and degree requirements.
  • Work with faculty to create Plan of Study for cultural sponsors and ROTC students (as requested), major exploration, internships, and other career opportunities (includes incoming/potential first year and transfer students, international sponsored/Yuma students, internal/external change of majors for current students).
  • Support new student orientation for Main Campus undergraduate students.
  • Process advanced standing requests, final degree audits, submit curriculum updates. 
  • Manage academic eligibility reviews creating success plans and meeting with students on academic warning/probation.
  • Facilitate awarding of SIE Scholarships and SIE student awards.
  • Initiate SIE tutoring: Will be supervisor/time approver for SIE student tutors.
  • Attend/assist with organizing undergraduate evets, SIE Alumni & Friends reception/crowdfunding.
  • Compile list of expected Fall and Spring Graduates.
  • Participate in Undergraduate Studies Committee.
  • Support ABET accreditation data collection and reporting.
  • Process new course additions and modifications.
  • Support SIE Graduation Ceremony and College of Engineering convocation.
  • Assist training new staff and new academic advisors.
  • Assist with ENGR 102A Lecture/Open House events as well as SIE 295S Lecture.
  • Other duties as assigned by Department Head.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient at building and presenting academic program information with senior academic advisors.
  • Ability to analyze and address strategic issues. 
  • Demonstrates higher level proficiency with University systems advisor tools.
  • Works under limited or minimal supervision and consults senior academic advisors with highly unusual or complex situations.
  • May provide input regarding student data (such as enrollment and retention information). 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience serving undergraduate students in academic advising or other student-related services at the University of Arizona or similar higher education institution.
