Position Highlights Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arizona is seeking an Academic Advising Professional II to provide academic advising for students and perform other duties as assigned. Academic Advising Professionals have authority to approve students' academic degree programs, including evaluating transfer credit and making exceptions to the program requirements under the auspices of their respective supervisor. This position plays a vital role in maximizing undergraduate student retention and provides clarity on academic program requirements and policies.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Student advising: evaluate progress to degree; explain degree requirements; assistance with choosing courses; working closely with students facing academic challenges; evaluate use of transfer credit; options to satisfy degree requirements; options for minors; timely response to student queries via email; disseminating departmental and university information to advising cohort; maintain up-to-date information on D2L AME advising site.
  • Create and maintain student records: complete advanced standing applications for 2nd year students; complete and evaluate academic success plans (requires use of UAccess Student); maintain degree plans for each student; complete degree audits for graduating seniors.
  • Collaboration and Meetings: provides input/topics of importance requiring resolution to various department bodies such as the UG Studies Committee, the Room and Course scheduler. Attends College/University-level advisor meetings. Attends regular meetings with the AME undergraduate team.
  • Events: Assists with departmental events such as meet your major fair, ENGR 102 Open House, and AME convocation ceremony.
  • This position works closely with the other AME advisors and serves as backup assistance to the other advisors when necessary. 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures.
  • Ability to problem solve and make decisions. 
  • Demonstrated effective skills in verbal and written communication, excellent grammar, composition, and proofreading. 
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to function well independently, setting priorities in a dynamic environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of individuals.  
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
