Job Description:

To coordinate the Computer Science Advising Office including oversight of staff, program implementation, enrollment management, external communications, data collection, and outcome assessment, reports, and accountability for meeting program objectives, or to manage more complex academic advising activities. Ensure the priorities of the College and Undergraduate Education are incorporated into all aspects of the position, including student-centeredness, diversity, equity and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Work with C S advising staff to explore new models for effective delivery of academic advising. Develop/support/assess current and new academic programs. Advise students individually and in groups. Implement, facilitate and manage academic advising programs including; Pods: learning communities for incoming CS first-year and internal/external transfer students; elements of Computing Certificate; 5Year BS/MS Integrated Program; C S Peer Recruitment Coaches; Turing Scholars; CSB Honors.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, and supervise advising center staff.
  • Provide departmental leadership/faculty input on degree and program requirements. Oversight of C S petitions. Assist with projecting course demands, oversee course enrollments/registration procedures for both C S majors and Elements of Computing courses. Work with CNS Dean’s Office and other advising units as needed.
  • Responsible for working across constituencies to forge practical solutions to complex problems, for accumulating and disseminating academic information, and for interacting with faculty, students, and parents in the coordination of academic advising functions. Oversee/evaluate/provide reports to C S Dept. and CNS Dean’s Office for: various admissions processes into the major, course enrollments, entry-level promotion, progress to degree and student success initiatives within Computer Science.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and eight years of experience working with college students or in an academic counseling capacity or Master's degree and six years of experience or Doctoral degree and four years of experience.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

Prior supervisory experience. 5+ years’ experience in a student-facing or advising position at UT Austin. Knowledge of CNS policies, procedures and degree plans, or experience at the University of

Texas at Austin working with student populations or in an advising area. Experience overseeing small community groups of students. Program management experience.


Salary Range

$50,000 + depending on qualifications


Working Conditions

General office conditions with the majority of time spent in contact with students, staff, faculty and administrators both during and after usual office hours. Some evening and weekend work required.
