Department Description

Department Purpose

This position works as part of the Academic Personnel Team as the Lead Academic Personnel Analyst in the Phoenix Cluster serving the departments of Entomology and Nematology, and Plant Pathology within the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Administrative offices are located in Hutchison Hall and Briggs Hall. There are approximately ~45 PI’s and approximately ~24 administrative cluster staff with more than 500 employees in the departments. The cluster also supports 2 graduate programs and 3 undergraduate majors.

Serve as an academic personnel expert for the Phoenix Cluster within the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. The position works with a wide diversity of academic positions including: Academic senate and federation personnel, Lecturers, Post doctoral scholars, and international and visiting scholars.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Required:

 

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Experience performing the full range of academic personnel functions including policy interpretation in a unionized higher education setting; coordinating personnel appointments of academics (senate and non-senate faculty, RA unit, postdocs, and visitors) and knowledge of payroll matters.

 

  • Experience with merit and promotion; recruitment, selection and retention; classification and compensation administration; and employee and labor relations of academic employees.

 

  • Experience managing projects and multiple tasks including working with faculty or PIs,
    establishing good rapport to perform in a fast-paced environment, planning and
    coordinating assignments, adapting to changing priorities, meeting deadlines; managing
    high volume of email; and maintaining a high level of productivity and efficiency.

 

  • Experience working in a professional environment with strong political acumen and diplomacy in handling and responding to sensitive or difficult situations.

 

  • Experience utilizing standard business software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and electronic Accounting Systems to create complex word documents, spreadsheets with formulas and presentation tools.

 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Quantitative analytical and critical thinking skills to gather information, research, evaluate and analyze complex data and policy from a wide variety of sources and apply problem-solving skills in an objective manner, prepare budgets, present statistical and financial information in appropriate and understandable formats for business planning and evaluation.

 

  • Communication, customer service and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students and others. Writing, editing, and proofreading skills to draft informational materials for clear, concise dissemination. Skills to edit copy for grammar, spelling, and punctuation with attention to detail.

 

 

Preferred:

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Experience with UC Davis personnel systems such as MIV, APHID, UC OATS. Experience using RECRUIT.

 

  • Experience utilizing standard business software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and standard email programs such as Outlook.

 

  • Experience preparing or reviewing UC Davis merit and promotion dossiers.

 

  • Experience reviewing and managing workload to ensure proper distribution of work among team.

 

  • Experience preparing or reviewing advancement dossiers.

 

  • Knowledge of and experience applying complex policy documents, labor agreements, governmental employment requirements and regulations (e.g. Worker’s Comp, ADA, FMLA, Affirmative Action) and related material. Must maintain a high degree of discretion, integrity, and sensitivity to confidentiality and privacy.

 

  • Knowledge and experience analyzing and interpreting UC policies and procedures relating to Academic Senate, Academic Federation, and Unit 18 personnel

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

  • Knowledge of payroll/personnel systems, including on-line systems, preferably UC Path, Decision Support, Aggie Enterprise, PeopleAdmin, MyInfoVault, APHID, etc.
