Scope of Job

To provide skills at the journeyman level on repairing and maintaining air conditioning equipment. Responsible for the complete service of all air conditioning systems.

Description of Duties

• Performs repairs and maintenance on all air conditioning systems independently.

• Calibrates, installs, maintains, and repairs pneumatic thermostats, air handlers, refrigeration devices, refrigerators, ice makers, compressors, fans, motors, water pumps, insulation, valves, boilers, and all other related equipment and devices.

• Performs preventative maintenance as assigned.

• Installs new systems or replace old systems.

• Emergency repairs and preparations.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received

General direction from the assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given

Supervises assigned staff.

Required Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education



As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history MVR from their prior State of residence(s).

Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job.

Required Experience

Three (3) years of skilled/journeyman level experience as refrigeration or AC mechanic.

Preferred Experience



Skill in the use of all equipment of the A/C trade.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Some work in cramped or confining areas, on roofs, or require exposure to outside elements.


This position will be subject to a pre-employment physical.
