Job Summary:
The Department of Surgery at The University of North Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time academic abdominal transplant surgeon to join our Division of Abdominal Transplant Surgery. Academic appointment will be commensurate with the candidate's experience. The Division of Abdominal Transplantation Surgery is among 9 clinical Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes 7 faculty members (4 abdominal transplant surgeons, 2 clinical instructors, and 2 research scientists). The faculty members offer a broad array of clinical services in order to provide the highest quality care for transplant surgery patients including liver, kidney and pancreas transplants. In addition the team performs deceased donor transplants, living donor transplants, living donor nephrectomies, minimally invasive hepatobiliary surgery and has a new program in total pancreatectomy and autologous islet transplantation. The care also includes general surgery care for transplant patients and vascular access procedures for patients with end stage renal disease. Faculty members within the Division of Abdominal Transplant Surgery must possess a desire to commit to all three mission of the department and school of medicine, including the clinical, education, and research missions. Regarding the education mission, faculty members are expected to regularly participate in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows. Regarding the research mission, a commitment to any one of a broad array of research interests is desirable, including but not limited to clinical, outcomes, health services, basic science, translational, ethics, education, or global surgery research. Regarding the clinical mission, faculty members must be committed to delivering high quality clinical care that is of value to the patients of UNC. Selected candidate must be team-oriented and have the ability to interact well with colleagues inside and out of the Division. Outreach to our many rural referring hospitals is highly encouraged.  
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal applicant will have multi-year proficiency as an independent surgeon in living donor liver transplantation including extensive experience in the evaluation, intraoperative management and postoperative care of this patient population. In addition, they will have expertise in deceased donor liver, kidney and pancreas transplant procedures.American Society of Transplant Surgery Fellowship-training or comparable is prefered for this position.Only candidates who have finished or will be completing an American Society of Transplant Surgeons fellowship should apply, and these candidates must be certified by the American Board of Transplant Surgery, or in the process of seeking certification.
