    Position description

The UCLA Abdominal Imaging / Cross Sectional Interventional Radiology fellowship program provides unique advanced clinically rigorous training in Abdominal Imaging, Image Guided interventions and Clinical Research. Imaging training broadly includes fluoroscopy (UGI, enteroclysis, defecography, HSG etc), Abdominal single and dual energy CT, CTA, CT Colonography, CT enterography and 3D Post Processing Techniques (Vitrea, SyngoVia, etc), PET CT, PET MRI, Ultrasound (including 3D/4D, Thyroid, Head and Neck, High Risk OB, Vascular, Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound, Superb Microvascular Imaging, Elastography, and Saline Hysterosonography), Abdominal MR Imaging (liver, pancreas, kidney, enterography) Pelvic MR, (Pelvic Floor, fibroid, congenital anomalies) Multiparametric MR prostate, rectum, gyn onc and penis, MR Angiography and Venography, MR Elastography, and Fetal MR. Interventional procedures carried out by the CSIR section include US and CT guided FNA, biopsies (including CT, US, transvaginal and transrectal guided), US, CT and MR guided drainages, nephrostomies, US and CT guided tumor ablation with RF, cryo, IRE or microwave, MR guided and MR-US fusion targeted prostate biopsy, and MR guided HIFU for uterine fibroids and MR transurethral TulsaPro for Prostate Cancer treatment.

As of July 2021, there are over 29 MRI scanners (23 3-Tesla Siemens and GE scanners), 19 CT Siemens CT scanners, four PET CT scanners, and 60 Philips US systems across 24 centers (3 hospitals, 21 outpatient sites). We perform image-guided interventions at three hospitals and six outpatient sites across the vast greater Los Angeles region. A PET-MR will be ready for use later this year and we are anticipating installation of a Photon Counting CT this year as well. Centricity PACS is integrated with EPIC Radiant EMR and Powerscribe v2.0 by Medicalis. Dictations are template based and all US measurements are auto-populated into templates for increased accuracy and efficiency. Fourteen fellowship-trained, subspecialized expert faculty perform both image interpretation and image guided procedures.

The program provides well-rounded and varied experience that can serve as a solid foundation for either academic or private practice careers. Fellows are expected to read 6000-7000 diagnostic cases and perform 100-200 CSIR cases in both outpatient and tertiary care settings during the year with a unique and adaptable skill set for superspecialization. Fellows are supervised but also have opportunities for independent image interpretation and moonlighting. Electives are possible. The fellowship provides several hours of weekly formal didactic lectures, tumor boards, and journal clubs as well as quarterly LARS-LA Body Club to supplement practical learning and opportunities for teaching and research. Attendance at courses such as LARS, SAR, SABI, SRU, AIUM, ARRS, ISMRM and RSNA are encouraged. Fellows will be lifelong members of the nearly 200 UCLA Abdominal Imaging/CSIR Fellowship Alumni practicing in Southern California and around the nation and world who are leaders at their institution.
