The Department of Clinical Sciences’ mission is to assure the health and productivity of animals to meet societal needs through high quality educational programs for professional veterinary medical students, graduate veterinarians, and the public through a faculty and veterinary medical center of excellence, and to advance and disseminate comparative biomedical knowledge in an environment of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Position Summary
The overall goal of these two positions is to engage with the livestock industries and their stakeholders on issues of animal, environmental, and human health related to livestock production systems. The individuals selected for these positions will be critical team members of AgNext, an exciting new collaborative, interdisciplinary, and multi-departmental initiative focused on the sustainability of livestock production systems. Members of this initiative will work alongside industry, government, education, producer, veterinarian, and community stakeholders in generating knowledge, training current professionals, and preparing future professionals in the competencies that enhance the long-term health and sustainability of livestock, agricultural producers and supporting industries.

Required Job Qualifications
Assistant professor
  • DVM degree (or equivalent) plus MS or PhD related to veterinary epidemiology
  • Evidence of potential for developing a collaborative research program.

Associate professor
  • DVM or equivalent veterinary professional degree plus MS or PhD related to veterinary epidemiology
  • Evidence of maintaining an independent and/or collaborative research program.
  • 5 years of experience at the Assistant Professor rank or equivalent

Assistant or Associate professor
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in North American livestock production systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills along with a demonstrated record of promoting collegial and collaborative team interactions
  • Experience, knowledge and skills that include:
    • conducting epidemiological research,
    • ability to independently secure extramural research support,
    • consulting on important health and production-related problems affecting animal populations, and
    • teaching epidemiology and population health related subjects to graduate and veterinary students.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • PhD related to veterinary epidemiology
  • Knowledge and experience in range or feedlot beef or dairy production
  • Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications,
  • Consulting experience on important production medicine problems affecting animal populations, in a context of agribusiness and production economics

Duty/Responsibility
  • Research effort will include independent and collaborative research with departmental faculty.
  • Collaborative research with other departments and colleges as a contributor to the sustainable livestock production initiative AgNext. Research areas of high priority include antimicrobial resistance, antibiotic use in livestock populations, disease prevention, food safety, production animal nutrition and reproduction, and livestock interactions with environmental and human health.
  • Scholarly activity will include publication of high impact original research. Professional and lay publications in the discipline of livestock epidemiology will also contribute to this category.
