Job Description:
  • Patrol assigned area(s) (foot, bicycle or vehicle) of campus; secure buildings and check for insecure conditions; assist public in those buildings; verify affiliation of occupants of building after hours; report suspicious activity discovered; assist public with information and direction.
  • Patrol assigned area(s) (foot, bicycle, or vehicle) of campus; issue citations as warranted for parking and decal violations; greet visitors, assist public with information and direction; report safety hazards, suspicious persons and activities, and any other condition that is or could create a safety or security problem.
  • Respond to non-emergency police incidents including but not limited to, lost/found property, abandoned property, criminal mischief, increased patrol requests, etc.
  • Handle telephone and walk-in requests at the police station from the general public; i.e. release of towed vehicles, specific criminal investigations, follow-up investigative reports, referrals.
  • Assist at traffic accident investigations, assist motorist with disabled vehicles, traffic direction, etc.
  • Perform basic crime scene duties to include: lifting fingerprints, taking measurements, taking photographs, collecting evidence, securing crime scenes, and writing crime scene reports.
  • Answers inquiries from public, directs to appropriate agency/division. Attend training classes. Testimony and appearance in judicial proceedings (witness appearance rather than arresting officer, used to witness rights, original complaint, how received, etc.)
  • Miscellaneous related duties.
  • This position is designated as an Essential Employee.  Essential employees provide vital support to the University of Florida and are subject to recall to work when deemed necessary by the Chief of Police/designee.  Recall to work typically happens due to an emergency, disaster or special event that may coincide with the official suspension of classes and/or closing of offices.
Expected Salary:

$15.00/hourly

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Some positions may require proficiency in typing.

Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral communications; ability to exercise independent judgment without supervision; ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; ability to investigate and obtain critical facts; ability to identify and describe facts and events accurately; ability to collect and evaluate data; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to deal with individuals and critical situations in an effective manner. Ability to open and close gates to campus.  Ability to operate safely authorized motorized vehicle type equipment.
