Physical Security Technician I

Job Description:

 

The Physical Security Technician is considered an essential role within the department and UF.

Maintain, repair, document and report any issues with equipment or installation of existing access control systems

Conduct periodic audits of security systems. Document recommended repairs and upgrades and develop preventive maintenance checklist and schedule for each installation

Help maintain parts inventory

Perform installation of wire paths, conduct wire pulls and terminations for existing and new, access control and camera installations

Perform installation of access control equipment including electrified door hardware and maintenance of security cameras

Provide direct support to UF Physical Security application support team in troubleshooting access control issues. Determine and report any issues that are found to be caused by software or system configuration

Provide direct support to UF Physical Security project management team in assessing and determining current system configuration for design of system additions, growth and improvements

Evaluate cost effective equipment repairs versus purchasing new equipment and make recommendations to supervisory staff

Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, service manuals and other reference material to facilitate the repair, maintenance, and diagnosis of electrical wiring, circuitry, hardware and ancillary devices related to campus system

Work with facility managers and Facilities Services shops to troubleshoot and determine causes of access control controller or voltage supply issues

Customer service support

Troubleshoot and repair other security systems including alarm systems/intrusion detection panels, motion sensors, duress buttons, keypads, automated gates and security cameras

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday, 07:30 a.m. to 04:30 p.m. This is a rotating and on call position. May require working nights, weekends and Holidays

Drives a state vehicle that requires a valid driver’s license.

A criminal background check and post offer health assessment will be conducted. 

Position will require additional background check for high security or sensitive areas

Position is considered as Essential Personnel as defined by UF Policy.

Expected Salary:

$17.50-$18.50 Hourly Based on experience

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma (or equivalent), two (2) years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Preferred Qualifications: • Two (2) years experience in low voltage and electronics or four (4) years of equivalent experience
• Strong mechanical, diagnostic and analytical skills to diagnose problems and repair equipment
• Ability to use multi-meter to determine correct operation or failure of electronics
• Ability to design testing scenarios to troubleshoot access control system issues
• Ability to perform related repair techniques using tools
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams and drawings
• Ability to deal with requests, complaints and clarification including providing advice and instruction in a calm, courteous and professional manner
• Ability to pay close attention to detail
